Huskies Host Kansas State, UNCW At Friedman Diamond

BOSTON - The Northeastern University baseball team (27-8, 9-3 CAA) returns home to begin a seven-game home stand, which begins this Wednesday, April 17 with a midweek contest against Kansas State (21-13, 7-8 Big 12), followed by a three-game weekend series with the UNCW Seahawks (23-13, 10-2 CAA) at Friedman Diamond beginning on Friday afternoon. All home games will stream on FloBaseball, and Friday's contest will be simulcast on NESN.

THREE THINGS TO KNOW:

1. LAST TIME OUT
  • Northeastern went 3-1 in last week's four games against Boston College and Delaware - the Huskies one-hit the Eagles in the Baseball Beanpot Championship to win their first title since 2013 by a final score of 7-0. NU followed up that performance winning their eighth straight weekend series, fourth straight in CAA play, taking two of three from the Delaware Blue Hens in Newark, Delaware. The Huskies came just short of the series sweep of the Blue Hens, scoring two runs in the top of the ninth but falling 11-14 - the Huskies had come from behind in similar fashion in the first two games of the weekend.
2. 19 WAYS
  • Wednesday's game with Kansas State serves as Northeastern's '19 Ways' game - 19 Ways is a community service initiative originally started by former Northeastern coach and current Kansas State head coach, Pete Hughes, in which the team gives back to the local community in 19 different ways each year.
  • The Wildcats of Kansas State will be making their first trip to Friedman Diamond this week, after meeting the Huskies in a neutral site game in 2010, their first and only meeting in program history.
  • Northeastern Baseball will be raising money for the Red Sox Foundation's Youth Baseball and Softball programs as one of the team's '19 Ways' this season.
3. CHAMPIONSHIP REMATCH
  • NU welcomes the UNCW Seahawks to Friedman Diamond this Friday, for just the second home weekend series of the season for the Huskies.
  • The Seahawks currently sit first in the CAA standings with a 10-2 mark, with the Huskies and the College of Charleston right behind them at 9-3.
  • The past eight CAA Tournaments (2015-2023, save 2020) have featured either Northeastern or UNCW in the title game, with three head to head match ups (2023, 2021, 2018).
  • Saturday's contest against the Seahawks will be the team's Youth Day, with activities for youth baseball players and teams who attend. For more information, or to sign up, click here.

After this week's home games, the Huskies finish off the home stand with a three-game series against Elon starting Friday, April 26. Saturday's game will be Senior Day and Alumni Day, bringing former Huskies home to Friedman to celebrate their next crop of graduating alums.
