BROOKLINE, Mass. – In game two of their weekend series, the Northeastern Huskies (30-11, 12-5 CAA) defeated the Elon Phoenix (17-25, 6-11 CAA) by a score of 7-2 on Saturday afternoon to take a 2-0 lead in the series, earning head coach
Mike Glavine's 300
th career win.
The Huskies were held off the scoreboard until the fifth inning, trailing 2-0, before a three-run outburst gave the Huskies the lead for good, as they tacked on four more in the seventh to take the series win.
Tyler MacGregor hit another backside homer in the contest and finished the day with a game-high four RBIs.
- The Phoenix jumped onto the scoreboard early with a run in the second on a base-loaded infield single and an RBI single through the left side in the third.
- The Huskies had their chances but couldn't break through until the fifth inning, plating three runs to take the lead 3-2. Carmelo Musacchia took home on the second of two-consecutive wild pitches to get the Huskies on the board, and Tyler MacGregor broke up a double play and advanced to second on a throwing error to score Ryan Gerety and Cam Maldonado.
- The Huskies extended the lead with four runs in the seventh, starting with another back-side home run for MacGregor, scoring Mike Sirota and Luke Beckstein, to lead 6-2.
- After Alex Lane reached on a walk and moved to right on a single by Jimmy Sullivan, both runners moved up a base on a balk, scoring Northeastern's 7th run of the ballgame.
- The Huskies got four strong innings out of starter Jack Bowery, making his first start in a Husky uniform. He allowed just two runs on five hits, striking out three and walking one.
- Out of the bullpen, Aiven Cabral earned the win pitching 2.1 scoreless innings, allowing one hit, two walks, and striking out two. His record on the year is now 2-3.
- Dennis Colleran turned in a 2.2-inning save, allowing just one base runner and striking out four batters. It was his first save of the season.
- It's Northeastern's second 2-0 lead in a CAA series this season – the Huskies led Monmouth 2-0 in their home series in March before sweeping the series on Sunday.
