BROOKLINE, Mass. – Up 2-0 in their weekend series, the Northeastern Huskies (31-11, 13-5 CAA) came into their game on Sunday afternoon looking for the sweep over the Elon Phoenix (17-26, 6-12 CAA) at Friedman Diamond on Sunday afternoon. The Huskies plated seven runs in the fourth to pull away from the Phoenix, taking the series finale 13-2.
The Huskies got 5.1 strong innings out of starting pitcher
Wyatt Scotti, who earned his sixth win of the season and 24
th of his Northeastern career, which ties a program record. Offensively, NU got multi-hit games out of
Carmelo Musacchia (2-for-4, HR, 2 RBI),
Jack Goodman (2-for-4, 2 RBI) and
Gregory Bozzo (2-for-4, 2R).
Alex Lane notched two RBIs on the day, setting a new program single-season record with 65.
- Elon once again struck first with an RBI single in the top of the first, and a fielding error in the second to lead 2-0.
- The Huskies responded in the bottom of the second with a one-out solo shot to left field by Carmelo Musacchia, the first hit of the day for NU, to cut into the deficit.
- After the home run the Huskies got back to back hits from Jack Goodman and Gregory Bozzo to put two in scoring position for Cam Maldonado, who ripped a single up the middle to take the lead, 3-2 in the second.
- Northeastern exploded for a seven-run inning in the fourth to extend the lead to 10-2 – the Huskies scored on a wild pitch, a bases loaded walk and hit-by-pitch, a single from Jack Goodman, and a steal of home by Carmelo Musacchia.
- Lane officially set the new single-season program record for RBIs, with his 64th RBI of the year, on a sac-fly in the fourth inning. He got another sac-fly in the bottom of the fifth, scoring Luke Beckstein for the 11-2 lead.
- In the seventh, the Huskies tacked on two more after Maldonado led off the inning with a free base on an HBP. Maldonado stole second and then scored on an RBI triple by Luke Beckstein, the second of his Husky career, to lead 12-2.
- Tyler MacGregor provided the final run in the seventh on a sac-fly to the left field wall to score Beckstein from third.
- Wyatt Scotti finished the game in the sixth after 5.1 innings, allowing just two earned runs on six hits. He steered the defense through a 0-2 deficit, held on for the 3-2 lead, and left the game with a 10-2 lead.
- The Husky bullpen combined for 3.2 shutout innings to close out the contest. Brett Dunham led things off with 0.2 innings of work allowing just one walk and getting an inning-ending double play.
- The trio of James Quinlivan (1H, 1BB, 1K), Joseph Hauser (1H, 0BB) and Jack Beauchesne (1H, 0BB, 2K) each worked one full inning to close out the game.
- It's the Huskies' second three-game series sweep of the season – both have come in CAA play.
- It's the Huskies' 25th game of the season tallying 10 or more hits, and 18th of the season tallying 10 or more runs.
- Northeastern turned a season-high five double plays in the contest.
