Northeastern Finishes At Jay Carisella Invitational, East Coast Relays

DEDHAM, Mass. — Senior Ava Duggan broke her own Northeastern record in the 800m with a time of 2:07.09 as the Northeastern track & field program hosted the Jay Carisella Coaches Invitational Saturday, April 27. That time is the fastest in the CAA this season.

At the end of the meet, the Huskies honored its graduating class of Dominique Biron, Kennedee Cox, Caroline Afonso, Isa Meyers, Sarah Petersen, Kerem Ayhan, Alexander Korczynski, Anders Narita, James Pothier, Patrick Mullen, Malav Mehta, Pierre Sylvain and Cyrus Kurd

Noah Sweeney and Elizabeth McMahon also competed Saturday at the East Coast Relays, wrapping up a two-day meet.

TRACK EVENTS
  • Mullen kicked off the day with a PR in the 3000m steeplechase, finishing at 9:04.05 to win the event and move into seventh all-time at Northeastern.
  • Junior Vivian McMahon moved into the 1500m top ten at number eight, winning the race and crossing the line at 4:33.33.
  • Fifth year Dominique Biron championed both the 100m hurdles (13.84) and 400m hurdles (59.32), posting a top-100 time in the NCAA this year with her 400 hurdles time. She also won the long jump with a 5.83m jump.
  • Freshman Chinwuba Jon-Nwakalo put up a 110m hurdles time of 15.50 to win the race. In the men's 100m dash, freshman Vance Thorpe was the top collegiate finisher with a 10.95 mark.
  • In the men's 400m, freshman Johnny Emmanuel posted a 48.19 mark, winning the race.
  • The women's 800m saw Duggan break the school record and Abigail Hassman (2:07.76) move into second all-time and Sarah Petersen (2:10.53) move into eighth all-time. Junior Reed Cherry won the men's race with a 1:49.38 time.
  • Freshman Sierra Latonnel was just .29 seconds off the top ten list with a 24.89 finish in the 200m, while freshman Alex Landry was .52 seconds away in the men's 200 with a 21.92 mark.
  • Junior Shannon Trevor hit a PR in the 5000m, finishing at 17:39.41.
  • The Huskies' 4x400 squad of Emmanuel, sophomore Jessie Legister, Sylvain and Ayhan moved into fourth all-time with a time of 3:12.79.
FIELD EVENTS
  • Senior Hope Belvit was the top collegiate women's hammer thrower with a throw of 53.57m, and on the men's side senior Nicholas Pisciotta won the event with a 61.10m toss.
  • Junior Abigail Klinge finished first among collegiate athletes in the women's discus, reaching 44.42m, and freshman Mark Etienvre had the best men's collegiate throw with a 45.84m toss. Etienvre also won the shot put, pushing the implement 14.78 meters.
  • Sophomore Hailey Romero hurled her javelin 39.57m to win the women's event, while junior Diego Sanabria tossed his 55.52m on the men's side, taking first.
  • In the men's long jump, freshman Bashir Praileau hit the sand at 6.65m, winning the event.
  • Senior Madeleine DuChaussee took home first in the women's shot put, pushing it 13.84m.
  • Sophomore Mia Belanger finished second in the high jump after clearing a 1.65m bar, and freshman Ian Solberg got over 1.93 meters in his men's event win.
EAST COAST RELAYS
  • Graduate student Elizabeth McMahon clocked a 12.17 time in the 100m dash, taking 33rd in a field of 80 athletes.
  • Senior Noah Sweeney finished the 100m dash in 10.66 seconds. 
The Huskies' pole vaulters will head to the Yale Springtime Invitational Sunday, April 28.
