BOSTON — Looking to capture a tenth-straight CAA title, the Northeastern women's rowing team will head to Cooper River in Pennsauken, N.J. this Friday and Saturday, May 17-18 for the CAA Championship. Racing will kick off at 9:30 a.m. with the first varsity eight (heat one) and can be streamed live on FloSports.
THREE THINGS TO KNOW:
- DEFENDING A TITLE:Â Northeastern will be looking for a tenth-straight title at the CAA Championship this year. The Huskies have taken home the CAA title 12 times overall since 2009, all under head coach Joe Wilhelm. The CAA field includes Delaware, Drexel, Eastern Michigan, Monmouth, UC San Diego, UConn, and Villanova. The scoring races in the CAA Championship include the varsity four, second varsity eight and first varsity eight races. The winner of the CAA title will earn an automatic berth into the NCAA Championship from May 31-June 2 in Bethel, Ohio.Â
- 2023 CAA REWIND:Â In 2023, the Huskies captured their ninth-straight CAA title. Northeastern swept all three scoring races, claiming 42 points. Wilhelm earned CAA Coach of the Year honors for a conference-best tenth time. Additionally, Charlotte Kershaw, Tess Miller, Iris Cotrupi and Grace O'Connor all earned All-CAA honors.
- LAST TIME OUT:Â The Huskies last raced at Eastern Sprints with five boats advancing to their respective grand finals. The first varsity eight earned CAA Boat of the Week honors, for the second time this season, after advancing to the Grand Final with a time of 6:55.658 to take first in their heat and then posted a time of 7:02.588 against three nationally ranked opponents.Â
