BOSTON— The No. 14 Northeastern women's hockey team is set to open its 2025-26 campaign against the RIT Tigers with a two-game series in Matthews Arena beginning on Friday, Oct. 3 at 6 p.m. Game two is set for Saturday, Oct. 4 at 2 p.m. Both games will stream live on ESPN+.

THREE THINGS TO KNOW:
- WE 'C' YOU: Senior forward Lily Shannon has been named captain for the Huskies for the 2025-26 season. She is the first player from Massachusetts to wear the 'C' for the Huskies since Sarah Foss in 2016-17. Joining Shannon in the 2025-26 leadership group, wearing an 'A' are senior forward Holly Abela, senior defenseman Kristina Allard, and graduate student forward Jaden Bogden.
- NEW DAWGS ON THE BLOCK: Seven freshmen and one sophomore join the Huskies for the 2025-26 campaign, consisting of four forwards, three defensemen and one goaltender. The seven-member class of freshmen includes– Alessia Baechler, Ella Lloyd, Molly MacCurtain, Lexi Mara, Emy McDermid, Renna Trembecky and Stryker Zablocki. Brigitte Aube joins the Huskies from the club team at Northeastern as a sophomore.
- LIONS & TIGERS & BEARS, OH MY!: Northeastern and RIT are meeting for the first time since 2014, when the two teams tied 2-2. Prior to that matchup, Northeastern had a 13-game winning streak against the Tigers. RIT was picked to finish in third-place in Atlantic Hockey America (AHA). Junior defenseman Emma Pickering was selected to the Preseason All-AHA team for the Tigers. The Tigers opened their season with two victories over Post, 2-0 and 8-1. Three Tigers are tied to lead the team with three points through two games in Kolbee Ashe, Tilli Keranen and Emma Pickering.Â
Northeastern will next open Hockey East play, hosting Providence on Friday, Oct. 10 for a 1:30 p.m. puck drop.
