DEDHAM, Mass. -- The Northeastern field hockey team (5-5) fell to No.20 Boston College (4-6) in a close 3-2 battle, where Northeastern freshman Hannah Simon and sophomore Olivia Yelen both clinched their first career goal.
Boston College controlled the play in the opening quarter, and took a 1-0 lead five minutes in on a goal from Mia Garber, beating Loveridge for the score.
Northeastern, which locked down defensively throughout the first half, broke through midway through the third quarter when Hannah Simon registered her first collegiate goal, tucking a shot past BC goalkeeper Charlotte Kramer to level the game 1-1.
The Eagles struck right back, though, as Klara Mueffelmann took a pass from the left side before sending a low shot inside the post to give the visitors a 2-1 lead.
Boston College found the back of the net again as Alex De Cain fired a shot off a penalty corner past Loveridge for her first collegiate tally.
Northeastern wouldn't go quietly, though, as the Huskies brought it within one with 6:30 remaining in regulation when a bouncing ball through the circle found its way on to the stick of Olivia Yelen, who tapped it in to make it 3-2.
The Huskies will be back in action next weekend when Northeastern travels to Albany for a 12 p.m. meeting with the Great Danes.
