BOSTON – Looking to build on momentum from last weekend's win over Duquesne, the Northeastern men's basketball team travels to Winston-Salem, N.C. for a Black Friday matinee at Wake Forest. Tip-off is set for 12 p.m. on ACCNX.
Â
THREE THINGS TO KNOW
Â
1. SERIES HISTORY VS. WAKE FOREST
Northeastern and Wake Forest will be meeting for the first time and is the first of two ACC opponents for the Huskies this season (Syracuse). NU has recorded nine victories over high-major opponents in
Bill Coen's tenure.
Â
2. ABREU'S BREAKOUT WEEK
After averaging 24.5 ppg off the bench, freshman guard
Xavier Abreu was named the CAA Player of the Week on Monday. The rookie shot 56.3% from the floor to go with 4.0 rebounds and 3.0 steals per contest. Abreu registered his first career double-digit scoring effort with 17 points on 7-of-15 shooting, while logging three steals at Princeton.Â
Â
His standout performance came on Saturday in the Huskies' 93-86 win over Duquesne, notching the highest scoring output by a CAA player this season with 32 points on 11-of-17 shooting. Abreu also added five rebounds, three steals, two assists and a block in the final minute of the game to lead the Huskies to victory.Â
Â
He's the first rookie to earn CAA Player of the Week honors since Elon's Darius Burford on Feb. 22, 2021, and just the 12th rookie in program history and first since 2020 to drop at least 32 points in a game.
Â
3. BENCH PRODUCTION
Northeastern received 60 points from its bench on Nov. 22 against Duquesne, including 32 from
Xavier Abreu and 17 from
Haris Elezovic, career highs for both players. As of Nov. 25, it's just one of six instances this season when a team has received at least 60 points from its bench (Division I vs. Division I games only).
