WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The Northeastern men's basketball team (3-4) gave Wake Forest (6-2) all it could handle, but a 15-3 run midway through the second half put the Demon Deacons in control for good on Friday afternoon at LJVM Coliseum, 86-73.

Northeastern battled all day, shooting better than 50% for the second straight game and a season-best 10-of-18 from long range, led by a career-high 22 points from freshman
Miles Newton. Newton scored 19 of his points in the first half and finished the day 8-of-13 overall and 4-of-6 from deep to lead four Huskies in double digits.

He was joined by
Xander Alarie, who went for 15 points (5-of-7 FG) along with six rebounds and a game-high six assists, while
Xavier Abreu (12 points) and
Youri Fritz (10 points, five rebounds) also reached double figures.

The Huskies came out hot, shooting 60% in the first half to put Wake Forest on its heels early, including a 6-of-9 clip from three-point range. The Demon Deacons maintained the lead for most of the half, leading by as many as nine before Northeastern hit five of its final six shots to cut the deficit to 45-44 at the break.Â

After a
William Kermoury three pointer made it a 55-52 game early in the second half, Wake Forest seized control from there with the 15-3 run over 4:16, extending its lead to as many as 15 points with 11:44 remaining. Tre'Von Spillers led the Demon Deacons with 17 points and 10 rebounds, while Juke Harris added 17 points of his own highlighted by 10-of-11 at the line for a WFU squad that was 32-of-58 overall and forced Northeastern into 13 turnovers in the final 20 minutes.

Wake Forest controlled the glass, pulling down 34 rebounds to limit Northeastern's second chance opportunities and scoring 40 points in the paint at the other end.

The Huskies will be back in action on Wednesday when Northeastern travels to Worcester for a 6 p.m. matchup with Holy Cross on ESPN+.
