Huskies Return Home To Face UMass

BOSTON -- The Northeastern women's basketball team (3-5, 0-0 CAA) returns home to host UMass (6-0, 0-0 MAC) on Wednesday, December 3 at 4 p.m. for its final home game of the 2025 calendar year. The game will be played at the Cabot Center and can be seen on NESN, while also streaming on FloCollege. Tickets are available at NUHuskies.com/tickets.

THREE THINGS TO KNOW
  1. LAST TIME OUT: The Huskies dropped a hard-fought 56-79 decision to Rutgers at Jersey Mike's Arena on Friday night. Junior guard Yirsy Quéliz led all Huskies with 11 points and three rebounds, while sophomore guard Camryn Collins added nine points. Sophomore center Alyssa Staten posted 10 points and six rebounds, marking a season-high in scoring for the Statesboro, Georgia native. Graduate student guard Nariyah Simmons contributed seven points and two rebounds in the contest.
  2. SCOUTING UMASS: Northeastern trails the all-time series 16-17 against the Minutewomen, with UMass winning the last meeting, 81-50, at the Mullins Center on December 5, 2024. The Minutewomen enter Wednesday's matchup undefeated at 6-0 and ranked in the top 60 of the NET rankings. UMass has notched impressive victories over Boston College, Holy Cross and Old Dominion during their hot start. Senior forward Megan Olbrys leads the Minutewomen with 18.5 points per game and 9.3 rebounds per game, while junior guard Yahmani McKayle is averaging 15.7 points per game. Head coach Mike Leflar is in his third season at UMass and has the Minutewomen rolling with a balanced attack that ranks first in the MAC in assists per game.
  3. CRASHING THE GLASS: Despite their 3-5 record to start the season, the Huskies have consistently controlled play on the boards. Northeastern is averaging 36.3 rebounds per game while holding opponents to 34.9 boards per contest, good for a +1.4 rebounding margin. The Huskies have been particularly dominant on the offensive glass, pulling down 91 offensive rebounds compared to just 72 for opponents through seven games. Sophomore forward Alyssa Staten leads the team with 5.3 rebounds per game, followed by Taylor Holohan with 5.0 and Yirsy Quéliz averaging 4.4 rebounds per game. That advantage on the glass has led to valuable second-chance opportunities for the Huskies.

Following Wednesday's game against UMass, the Huskies will travel to Boston College on Friday, December 19 to wrap up the non-conference schedule. Tip-off is set for 12 p.m. on ACCNX.
