BOSTON - The Northeastern University baseball team begins its 2025 campaign this Friday, February 14th as the Huskies travel down to Charlotte, North Carolina to face UNC Charlotte for a three-game series. The series, which was originally scheduled to kick off Friday afternoon at 4 p.m., will now begin at noon on Friday with a double header game to follow. Game three is still scheduled for Saturday at 2 p.m. Games are scheduled to stream on ESPN+.
THREE THINGS TO KNOW:
1. RUN IT BACK
Northeastern returns 50% of its 2024 RBIs and 44% of its scored runs by way of first baseman/outfielder
Alex Lane and outfielderÂ
Cam Maldonado expected to lead the way for the Huskies offensively in 2025. Lane and Maldonado were both named Preseason All-CAA Selections, along with shortstop
Jack Goodman, catcher
Gregory Bozzo, and reliever
Jack Beauchesne. In 2025 the Huskies are on the hunt for their fifth straight 30-win season, and third straight 35-win season.
2.
2. NATIONALLY KNOWN
Four members of the 2025 squad were named to D1Baseball's top positional rankings this preseason, led by
Alex Lane as the #4 first baseman in the country - he's joined by
Jack Goodman (#46 shortstop),
Jack Beauchesne (#48 reliever) and
Cam Maldonado (#60 outfielder). Northeastern was named the #67 program in the nation in D1Baseball's Top 100 Programs list last fall, up 16 spots from the previous ranking in 2022.
3. SCOUTING THE 49ERS
The weekend series will be the first meeting between NU and UNC Charlotte - the 49ers last season went 12-15 in the AAC last season, 24-34 overall, with a three-game run in the AAC tournament, winning their first game in 12 innings over #2-seed UTSA, 9-5. The '9ers were a battle-tested group in 2024, with ranked contests against four opponents, including a ranked win over #9 ECU. Against the CAA, Charlotte faced off with Campbell UNCW, and NC A&T, with a midweek win over A&T and a Friday night 21-10 win over the Seahawks in non-conference action.
