VIRGINIA BEACH — The Northeastern men's and women's track and field team competed on the second day of the CAA Indoor Track & Field Championships Thursday afternoon. Both teams concluded the event in third place, with the men accumulating 140.5 points and the women totaling 94.5 points.
The Huskies collected eight medals on day two of the championships, with senior
Ben Godish taking home gold in the mile and 3000m. His three golds and two meet records earned him the CAA Men's Track Athlete of the Meet.
MULTI EVENTS
- Senior Paul Wisnaskas used a win in the 1000m (2:55.94) and top-five finishes in the 60m hurdle (8.64) and pole vault (4.05m) to finish fourth in the heptathlon with 4,855 points, a new personal best.
FIELD EVENTS
- Sophomore Camryn Cole cleared the bar at 1.75m to take fourth in the women's high jump.
- Sophomore Ohan Ambartsoumian finished seventh in the men's shot put with a 15.06m mark.
TRACK EVENTS
- Godish controlled the field from start to finish in the men's mile final, taking first with a time of 4:04.80 to win gold. Graduate student Tyler Brogan followed behind at 4:06.07 to claim silver, while freshman Jacob Redman ran a 4:10.29 and sixth place to round out the competing Huskies.
- In the final of the women's mile, graduate student Stephanie Kriss crossed the line in sixth with a 4:58.49.
- Graduate student Savion Thompson dashed to fourth in the men's 60m hurdle, running an 8.11 to win his heat.
- Junior Ariann Robinson finished fifth in the women's 400m, crossing the line at 55.75.
- Graduate student Tristen Howard claimed the bronze medal in the men's 60m after he ran a 6.78.
- Senior Nicole Dunbury used a late move on the second to last lap to win the women's 800, finishing the race at 2:08.59 for gold. In the men's 800m, senior Reed Cherry finished sixth with a 1:52.36.
- The women's 200m saw sophomore Savannah Blair earn fifth after she recorded a time of 23.88.
- Sophomore Brunner Williams led all Huskies in the men's 200m, taking fourth with a 21.17. Sophomore Alex Landry (21.43) and Howard (21.68) also competed, taking sixth and eighth.
- Graduate student Azza Borovicka-Swanson distanced her way to fourth in the women's 3000m, setting a 9:30.73 mark.
- Godish continued to dominate the distance events, claiming his third gold of the meet after winning the men's 3000m with an 8:09.96, a meet record. Sophomore Ryan Sarney and freshman Nico Boyle crossed the line together at 8:18:86 for fourth and fifth, with Nico's attempt becoming a new personal best.
- The Huskies took silver in both 4x800 relays, as a team of senior Lucy Abdow, sophomore Waverly Hassman, freshman Alanna Hagen, and Dunbury ran a 9:07.20. In the men's race, freshmen Ajay Raina, Cian Gara Grady, Jack Mattingly, and Brogan teamed up for a time of 7:35.85.
- The Huskies concluded the championship with a bronze medal in the women's 4x400 relay. The Robinson, Blair, freshman Morgan Hayward, and Sloan Hinton group dashed 1600m, finishing at 3:44.26.
Northeastern now prepares for the ECAC/IC4A Championships, which take place at the Track at New Balance on Friday, Mar. 7.
