BOSTON - The Northeastern University baseball team (12-7, 0-0 CAA) opens up Costal Athletic Assocation play this weekend at Freidman Diamond, as the Huskies host the Towson University Tigers (7-15, 0-0 CAA) for a three-game weekend series. The first game of the weekend is scheduled for Friday, March 21st at 2 p.m. - all three games of the weekend will stream on FloCollege.
THREE THINGS TO KNOW:
1. LAST TIME OUT
- The Huskies went 1-1 in their midweek slate after going 3-0 on the weekend at home against Harvard. The Huskies beat Merrimack at home on Tuesday, 10-0 in eight innings for their fourth shutout of the season. After putting up 10 on Tuesday, the Huskies struggled against BC, suffering their first shutout loss since the 2022 season, 6-0 to the Eagles.Â
2. ABOUT THE TIGERS
- The Towson Tigers come into the weekend off a big 20-15 win over northeast foe UMass on Wednesday afternoon. The Tigers have only played three weekend series against the same opponent, dropping a series to Holy Cross and Cornell at home, while beating UMES 2-1 in a neutral site series. The Tigers come in with a 4-6 record at home, but 0-4 away from Shuerholz Park in true road games (3-5 in neutral site games).
3. DOMINANCE ON THE MOUND
- Through the first five weekends of 2025, Northeastern pitching leads the CAA in four stat categories (and is second in four more) with several top-50 rankings in the NCAA. The Huskies lead the conference in K/BB ratio (2.71, 32nd in NCAA), shutouts (3, 7th in NCAA), WHIP (1.28, 30th in NCAA) and saves (7). The Huskies have also excelled in keeping the ball in the zone with a 3.43 walks per nine average, good for second in the CAA and 25th in the nation. After Tuesday's shutout against Merrimack, Northeastern is one of just eight teams in the country to have four shutouts on the season.
