AMESBURY, Mass. — Freshman Joe Connor and sophomore Cameron Whitehead of the Northeastern men's hockey team earned Hockey East weekly honors as announced on Monday. Connor claimed Pro Ambitions Rookie of the Week honors while Whitehead earned the Stop It Goaltending Goaltender of the Week accolade. The duo guided Northeastern to a 2-1-0 record in Hockey East playoffs.
Following his first career playoff run, Connor tabbed his first career conference honor. Through three playoff games, that included two double, overtime contests, the New Hampshire native tallied two points (1g, 1a), 12 shots and six blocks. Connor scored the game-winning goal against top-seeded No. 1 Boston College with 3:40 to go in the second period. Most recently, the Tampa Bay draft pick collected an assist on NU's power-play goal against two-seeded No. 4 Maine in the Hockey East semifinals. Additionally, he blocked a career-high four shots.
For the third time this season, Whitehead was named Goaltender of the Week by the league. In 235:41 minutes played across three playoff games, the Ontario native tallied 131 saves for a 94.9 save percentage and 1.79 goals against average. Whitehead set a career-high 44 saves in the opening round game against eight-seeded Merrimack that was quickly broken once again in the Hockey East semifinals with 57 saves against two-seeded No. 4 Maine. Additionally, the Golden Knights' draft pick finished the semifinal contest with a 93.4 save percentage.
