BOSTON - The Northeastern University baseball team (18-8, 5-1 CAA) prepares for a big four-game schedule this week, hosting Boston College (13-12, 5-7 ACC) on Tuesday afternoon (2:30 p.m.) in the 2025 Baseball Beanpot semifinal, and traveling to Buies Creek, North Carolina for a three-game road series at Campbell (13-14, 4-2 CAA) beginning Friday night (6 p.m.). All four games will stream on FloCollege, while Tuesday's Beanpot game can be seen on NESN.
THREE THINGS TO KNOW:
1. IT'S ALL ABOUT THE BEANS
- Northeastern begins its title defense of the 2024 Baseball Beanpot title with round one taking place Tuesday afternoon at Friedman Diamond. Northeastern is 32-29 all-time in the tournament, while Boston College is 42-18-1. The first round match up is a rematch of last season's championship game, where Northeastern blanked BC 7-0 at Harrington Athletics Village in Brighton. Boston College is 16-7 all-time vs. the Huskies in the tournament, and is 1-0 in the season series this year after its 6-0 victory in Brighton earlier in March. Northeastern's 2024 championship was the seventh in program history, which is the tied for the second-most titles among the four schools (NU, BC, UMass and Harvard).
2. FIGHTING THE CAMELS
- The Huskies are set to meet their newest conference opponent, the Campbell Fightin' Camels, for the first time in program history. Campbell joined the CAA from the Big South after the 2023 season, a year in which the Camels made the NCAA tournament. The Camels entered conference play this year after a grueling non-conference schedule that featured five games against ranked opponents, including a midweek win over #17 Duke, and a series win over NU's regional foe, UConn. So far in CAA play, Campbell has won both of its weekend series, hosting UNCW in weekend one and heading to Charleston last weekend, winning both series 2-1. The Camels sit tied for second in the conference standings at 4-2 with Delaware and William & Mary, behind only the 5-1 Huskies. Ahead of the weekend series, Campbell travels to #21 Coastal Carolina on Tuesday night, looking to even the season series with the Chanticleers.
3. LAST TIME OUT
- Northeastern went 4-0 in last week's slate against UConn in the midweek at home and Stony Brook on the road in conference play. Wednesday's midweek contest against UConn was Northeastern's fourth straight win over the other Huskies, with a near-perfect game from Max Gitlin on the mound, allowing just one double in the ninth inning. Over the weekend, the Huskies belted 12 homers en route to a weekend sweep over Stony Brook, outscoring the Seawolves 33-9 in the series. With that, the Huskies now lead the conference with 36 homers on the year, after Cam Maldonado and Jack Goodman homered in all three games, and Harrison Feinberg homered in the first two.Â
