BOSTON – After a stretch of eight straight home games, the Northeastern University baseball team (30-9, 13-2 CAA) travels down the coast to face the Monmouth Hawks (20-21, 7-8 CAA) in a three-game series set to begin this Friday, April 25
th at 3 p.m. at Monmouth University Baseball Field. All three games of the weekend are scheduled to stream on FloCollege and can be heard on WRBB Sports.
THREE THINGS TO KNOW:
- TOUGH TO CRACK
- Northeastern's defense ended last weekend with the nation's lead in shutouts and WHIP, recording their 10th, 11th, and 12th shutouts of the season and lowering the team WHIP down to 1.09. Northeastern has produced five straight CAA shutouts against Hofstra and Chalreston at home, and is on a 50-inning shutout streak in conference play, with the Huskies' last run allowed in a CAA game coming on April 11th in the second inning against Hofstra. Last weekend against Charleston, the Huskies blanked a conference opponent in three straight games for the first time since 2011.
- COMING IN HOT
- After a 5-0 week against Kansas State and Charleston last week, two Huskies were honored as CAA Player of the Week and Pitcher of the Week – outfielder Harrison Feinberg and starting pitcher Jordan Gottesman each earned their first career CAA weekly honor for their efforts in a huge week. Feinberg led all batters with a .471 batting average, notching a double, a triple, and two homers driving in nine runs on the week. Against Kansas State, Feinberg earned a SportsCenter #1 play robbing a home run in game two to preserve the NU lead. On Sunday, Jordan Gottesman tossed a complete game seven-inning shutout to complete the series sweep over Charleston, allowing just one hit and one walk while striking out nine. It was his second straight start with seven innings pitched and nine strikeouts.
- SERIES HISTORY
- Northeastern is 7-1 all-time against Monmouth, 6-0 in CAA play - the first ever meeting of the two clubs came in 2022, one year prior to Monmouth's joining of the CAA, where NU and Monmouth faced off in a neutral site double header, which they split. NU's last trip to West Long Branch featured another double-header, which the Huskies took with a 14-6 score in game one, and a 9-5 scoreline in game two. The Huskies completed their sweep over the Hawks on Sunday with a come-from-behind 6-4 win. Mommouth comes into the weekend off a series win over Elon at home, and a midweek 8-3 loss to Big East foe Seton Hall.
