BOSTON - The Northeastern volleyball team is looking to get back in the winning column after falling to New Hampshire on Saturday. The Huskies will head to New York for the Big Apple Tournament, hosted by Columbia, Friday September 5 through Saturday September 6. The Huskies are slated to open the weekend against Fordham (11 a.m.) on Friday, followed by taking on the host team at 7 p.m. that evening. The weekend rounds out on Saturday with a 12 p.m. start time against New Haven.

. TOURNAMENT OPPONENTS - The first match for the Huskies against Fordham leans their way, with an overall 4-1 record all-time against the Rams. The last time the teams faced off against each other was in 2016, where the Huskies hosted a 3-1 win. Northeastern holds a winning edge over the host Columbia, where the Huskies notch the sole win between the teams from the 2017 season. In the final match-up of the weekend, the Huskies hold a 5-3 overall record against the New Haven Chargers, ranging from 1980-1987. The last time the teams faced off in 1987, Northeastern came away with a 2-0 victory.

DEFENSIVE PRESENCE - Senior libero
Nadia Koanui tabbed Coastal Athletic Association defensive player of the week after her performances at the Holly Young Invitational. The Hawaii native tallied 49 digs in the 2-1 weekend, averaging 4.08 digs per set and receiving at a .953 clip. Koanui added 10 assists and a trio of service aces on the weekend. As a team, the Huskies registered 12.8 digs per set to go alongside 1.6 blocks per set.

IMPACT PLAYERS - First year
Emma Rowell put up impressive numbers on the weekend, the opposite hitter tallied 34 kills, 36.5 points, while averaging 2.83 kills per set with 3.04 points per set. Redshirt-Freshman
Valentina Meirelles followed closely behind with 27 kills, 31.0 points, averaging 2.70 kills per set with 3.10 points per set. Sophomore setting duo
Arina Sosinovica and
Gabby Reeves tallied 137 assists last weekend, with Sosinovica averaging 6.67 assists per set and Reeves averaging 4.75. Reeves also tallied three service aces on the weekend to go along with four kills.
After the trip to New York, the Huskies will take a road trip to Connecticut for a trio of away games, where they will face off against Fairfield on Friday September 12, Yale on Saturday September 13, and UConn on Sunday September 14.
