BOSTON — After a month away from the pool, the Northeastern women's swimming and diving team (4-1) returns to action at the Tate Ramsden Invitational, hosted by Dartmouth, from January 16-17 at the Karl and Michael Spaulding Pools. The first session of the competition will be held on Friday at 5 p.m., followed by sessions two and three on Saturday at 10 a.m. and 3 p.m..
THREE THINGS TO KNOW:
- START OF SEASON REVIEW — The Huskies have started the season strong with four wins over Vermont, Rhode Island, MIT, and New Hampshire. In the Terrier Invitational, Northeastern took a close second place. This season has also seen major individual accomplishments, including freshman Abigail Gowern championing both the 1000 Free and the 500 Free against New Hampshire and senior Anelise Kim earning the 3M and 1M victories against Vermont.
- TATE RAMSDEN REWIND — Last year, Northeastern championed the the invitational, earning a 256-79 win over UMass, and a 180-156 win over hosts Dartmouth. Senior Hannah Seward led the way with a pool-record win in the 100-yard butterfly (54.45) and a victory in the 200-yard butterfly (2:04.70). Graduate student Emily Gjertsen set a pool record in the 1650-yard freestyle at 16:58.69, while junior Anna Verlander broke the pool mark in the 200-yard backstroke with a 1:59.44. Other standout wins included Devon Muldoon in the 400 IM (4:29.03), Caroline Mahoney in the 100-yard freestyle (51.37), and Erin Murphy on the 1-meter dive (277.85).
- A ROY-AL REUNION — The Tate Ramsden Invitational marked not only another competition for the Huskies, but also a homecoming of sorts for Northeastern head coach Roy Coates. Before arriving at NU, Coates was the head coach of the men's swimming team at Dartmouth College for four seasons (1989-93). He also was an assistant for the Big Green from 1986-1989.
Following the two-day meet, the Huskies look towards their Senior Day meet against Stony Brook on Saturday, January 24 at 1 p.m. in Barletta Natatorium. The event will be available to stream on FloCollege.
