No. 7/6 Huskies Open Hockey East Play

BOSTON— The No. 7/6 Northeastern women's hockey team will open Hockey East play with two league games this weekend beginning with a trip to Providence on Friday, Oct. 9 at 2 p.m. The Huskies will then host New Hampshire at Walter Brown Arena on Sunday, Oct. 11 at 4 p.m. Both games will stream live on ESPN+.

THREE THINGS TO KNOW:
  1. A SWEDE SENSATION: Junior netminder Lisa Jönsson returns for her third year with the Huskies. Jönsson recently returned from playing with the Swedish National Team at the Women's Euro Hockey Tour. In her first career start with the senior national team, she posted a 15-save shutout against Switzerland. Jönsson owned a 21-7-1 record in 2025-26 with a 1.73 GAA and .939 save percentage. Her 1.73 GAA ranked as the ninth-best mark in the NCAA, while her save percentage ranked seventh.
  2. SCOUTING THE FRIARS: The Huskies and Friars will open Hockey East play against each other. Northeastern swept the Friars in three league meetings last season. In those games, Stryker Zablocki led all Huskies with six goals and nine points, while Rylie Jones had a team-high four assists. Providence sits at 2-2-0 with wins over Sacred Heart and two losses to then-No. 6 Quinnipiac. Audrey Knapp leads all Friars with five points, while Grace van Volsen has a team-high three goals. In net, Mallory Hartl and Bianca Birrittieri have each started two games. Hartl owns a 1.89 GAA and .941 save percentage while Birrittieri has a 3.76 GAA and .860 save percentage.
  3. LET'S GET WILD: Northeastern went 1-1-0 against the Wildcats last season, with Renna Trembecky starting in net for both games, making 42 saves across both starts. UNH will take on Boston University to open Hockey East play before facing the Huskies. The Wildcats were picked to finish seventh in Hockey East and are led by Northeastern alum Hilary Witt. UNH sits at 2-2-0 on the season so far, with both wins coming over LIU.
Northeastern will next travel to No. 5 Quinnipiac for a two-game series beginning on Friday, Oct. 16 at 6 p.m.
