Â
THREE THINGS TO KNOW
Â
1. LAST TIME OUT:Â Northeastern dropped a pair of road games last weekend, falling 55-64 at Stony Brook on Friday before a 55-63 loss at Towson on Sunday. Junior guard
Yirsy Quéliz led the way in both contests, posting 13 points against the Seawolves and a game-high 16 points on 5-of-13 shooting at Towson, including three three-pointers. Junior forward
Justice Tramble continued her strong second-half surge, scoring 10 points against Stony Brook and 12 points on 5-of-10 shooting at Towson while adding four rebounds. Sophomore guard
Camryn Collins tallied 12 points and two assists at Stony Brook, while senior
Morgan Matthews finished with 10 points on 4-of-9 shooting — including a three-pointer — at Towson. Collins continues to lead Northeastern in scoring at 11.4 points per game, while Tramble paces the team with 5.3 rebounds per game and is shooting a team-best 54.3% from the field.
Â
2. SCOUTING THE OPPONENTS: Friday night's matchup features conference-leading Charleston (19-3, 11-0 CAA), which visits Cabot Center riding a 12-game winning streak behind reigning CAA Player of the Year Taryn Barbot (19.0 ppg), her twin sister Taylor Barbot (12.5 ppg, 6.2 apg), and junior forward Grace Ezebilo, who ranks sixth nationally with 11.8 rebounds per game. The Cougars won the first meeting 85-58 on January 4, and Northeastern leads the all-time series 11-4, though Charleston has won four of the last five. Sunday's contest is an immediate rematch with Stony Brook (13-10, 8-2 CAA), which defeated the Huskies 64-55 on February 6 behind four double-digit scorers. The Seawolves, in their second season under head coach Joy McCorvey, are enjoying the best conference start in program history and are led by juniors Janay Brantley (11.5 ppg), Diaka Berete (10.1 ppg), and Caitlin Frost (9.9 ppg, 7.7 rpg), while graduate transfer Sandra Frau-Garcia runs the show with 4.6 assists and 2.3 steals per game. Northeastern trails the all-time series 5-12 and has lost the last three meetings.
Â
3. HOME COOKING: This weekend marks a welcome return to Cabot Center for a Northeastern squad that has spent much of the season on the road. The Huskies have played just nine of their 21 games at home this season, posting a 2-7 record at Cabot Center. Four of Northeastern's final seven regular-season games will be played in Boston, beginning with this weekend's homestand, giving the Huskies a chance to build momentum in a more familiar setting. The Huskies' home slate also features matchups against UNCW (March 1) and Elon (March 7) following this weekend's games against the CAA's top two teams.
