NU Baseball Faces Red Sox, Minnesota In Fort Myers

BOSTON — The Northeastern University baseball team (0-3) heads south to Fort Myers, Florida for a three-game weekend beginning this Friday, February 20th, as the Huskies take on the Boston Red Sox in their annual exhibition game before turning their attention to a two-game series with Minnesota (3-1) on Saturday and Sunday at Lee Health Complex, the spring training home of the Minnesota Twins. Huskies vs. Red Sox is at 1:05 p.m. on Friday on NESN, while the Minnesota series takes place on Saturday night (6:05 p.m.) and Sunday afternoon (12 p.m.)

THREE THINGS TO KNOW:
1. BACK TO FLORIDA: After opening the season in the desert at the MLB Desert Invitational, the Huskies make their annual trek to Fort Myers to kick off the Florida portion of their schedule. The Red Sox scrimmage on Friday is a long-standing tradition for the program, offering NU a chance to test itself against professional pitching and competition ahead of CAA play. It'll be the 22nd game in the all-time series between NU and the Sox, which dates back to 1977, when the two teams a single-game exhibition in Fenway Park before beginning the Spring Training tradition in 2004.

2. BOUNCING BACK: The Huskies will look to rebound off an 0-3 opening weekend when they return to NCAA play against Minnesota on Saturday night. Leadoff hitter Carmelo Musacchia has started every game at shortstop and logged the team's most hits (7), batting average (.500) and steals (4), while outfielder Carter Bentley has started in right field three times and slotted into the middle of the order with a pair of RBIs. Rookie infielder Charlie Criscola made an instant impact with a bases-clearing double in his first collegiate at-bat, and finished the weekend 3-of-9 (.333) at the plate with a pair of steals.

3. SCOUTING THE GOLDEN GOPHERS: Minnesota comes to Fort Myers off a 24-28 finish in 2025 — going 10-20 in the newly expanded Big Ten — in head coach Ty McDevitt's first year at the helm. Despite the overall record, the Gophers notched a pair of top-ten wins a season ago, taking down #7 Oregon State and #9 Oregon. Minnesota entered this week's action with a 3-0 record, with wins over Ball State, St. John's, and Stetson, outscoring all three by a total of 27-5 with a pair of shutouts. Minnesota played Florida Gulf Coast on Wednesday, a one-run loss, before their annual scrimmage against the Twins on Friday evening. Saturday will mark the fifth-ever meeting between Northeastern and Minnesota, with the all-time series tied at 2-2.
