Huskies Hit The Road For Two-Game Set With Maine

BOSTON, Mass. — The Northeastern men's hockey team plays their last regular season series this weekend against the Maine Black Bears, with Friday's game (Feb. 27) at Cross Insurance Arena and Saturday's contest (Feb. 28) at Tsongas Center.

THREE THINGS TO KNOW:
  1. HUSKIES READY FOR THE MAINE EVENT: In the last 20 meetings, the Huskies have dominated with a 13-5-2 record, including two shutouts, while outshooting Maine 63-44. Senior Vinny Borgesi leads all active Huskies with six points (1g, 5a) against the Black Bears, followed by junior Dylan Hryckowian with five points (2g, 3a). Juniors Andy Moore and Eli Sebastian and sophomores Joe Connor and Griffin Erdman each have one point against Maine.
  2. SWEPT UPNortheastern comes in riding a huge weekend sweep of UMass Lowell — their first sweep of the River Hawks since the 2019-20 season — outscoring UML 10-2 over two games. In game one, the Huskies shutout the River Hawks, 2-0. Sophomore Jack Henry opened scoring with his first career goal and the eventual game-winner. Goaltender Lawton Zacher turned aside 32 shots for his 11th win of the season, extending his nation-leading shutout total to five. In game two, freshman Noah Jones scored his first collegiate goal for the eventual game-winner — the second straight night an NU skater potted his first career goal for the winner. Sophomore Griffin Erdman led the team with four points over the weekend off back-to-back two assist nights.
  3. ROOKIE REPORTFreshmen Amine Hajibi, Giacomo Martino and Jacob Mathieu have each surpassed 20 points through 31 games, marking the first time three Northeastern freshmen have accomplished that in the same season since 2013-14, when Mike Szmatula (39pts), Dalen Hedges (22pts) and John Stevens (22pts) achieved the feat. Mathieu leads all NU freshmen with 26 points (second on team) and is tied with Hajibi at 17 assists (second on team), while Martino leads all freshmen with ten goals (third on team) and paces all Huskies with six power-play goals.
