BOSTON -- The Northeastern women's basketball team (7-18, 3-12 CAA) plays its penultimate weekend of the regular season with a pair of Coastal Athletic Association matchups. The Huskies travel to Philadelphia to face Drexel (17-8, 10-4 CAA) on Friday night at the Daskalakis Athletic Center before returning home to Cabot Center on Sunday afternoon to host Hampton (9-17, 3-11 CAA) in the regular-season finale.
Friday's contest against the Dragons tips off at 6 p.m. on FloCollege, while Sunday's matchup with the Lady Pirates is set for a 1 p.m. start.
THREE THINGS TO KNOW
1. JUSTICE MAKES HISTORY Sophomore forward
Justice Tramble put together one of the most dominant performances in Northeastern women's basketball history last Thursday at N.C. A&T, pulling down 21 rebounds in the Huskies' 89-86 triple-overtime loss to the Aggies. Tramble's 21 boards tied the program's single-game record, a mark that had stood since the 2009, and she added 18 points and three assists in 38 minutes of action, which tied her career high in points. The South Carolina State transfer has now grabbed double-digit rebounds in four CAA games this season, averaging a team-high 6.8 in conference play.
2. SCOUTING THE OPPONENTS Friday's contest against Drexel presents a significant challenge, as the Dragons sit third in the CAA behind one of the conference's premier scorers in graduate guard Amaris Baker, who leads the league with 19.3 points per game and has been named CAA Co-Player of the Week twice this season. Drexel defeated the Huskies 65-56 at Cabot Center on Feb. 1 behind Baker's 24-point effort, and head coach Amy Mallon's squad has secured its 12th consecutive winning season. Sunday's home finale against Hampton offers an opportunity to begin the final week of the regular season strong with two straight games in the Cabot Center, as the Lady Pirates have dropped five consecutive games and sit 10th in the conference standings. Boston College transfer Kayla Lezama has emerged as one of the CAA's breakout players with 14.1 points per game, having scored 15 or more points in nine of her past 16 games.
3. LAST TIME OUT Northeastern dropped a 70-57 decision at Elon on Sunday afternoon, with the Phoenix pulling away in the second half behind a balanced offensive attack. Sophomore forward
Justice Tramble led the Huskies with 12 points on 4-of-6 shooting in 20 minutes, while junior guard
Yirsy Quéliz and sophomore guard
María Sánchez Pitarch each chipped in nine points. Quéliz added three steals and two assists, while Sánchez Pitarch contributed three rebounds. The Huskies shot 37.0% from the field and struggled from deep at 20.0% (2-of-10), though they connected on 15 of 20 free throw attempts. Elon's bench outscored Northeastern's reserves 41-17, proving to be the difference in the contest.
