Hofstra Runs Past Northeastern, 80-63

HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. – Hofstra (15-9, 6-5) put four players in double figures, jumped out to an early lead and never looked back en route to an 80-63 win over the Northeastern men's basketball team (6-16, 2-9) on Thursday night at the Mack Sports Complex.

The Pride never trailed in the game, shooting 48% as a team and holding a 41-24 edge on the glass. Preston Edmead led all players with 23 points on the night to go along with nine rebounds and eight assists.

Northeastern, meanwhile, was led by 17 points from Ryan Williams (all in the first half) as the Huskies shot 45% from the field and 8-of-22 from long range. Williams was joined in double figures by Xavier Abreu (16 points) and William Kermoury (12 points, eight rebounds, five assists), while Youri Fritz returned to the lineup after missing the previous five games with an injury.

Hofstra led for most of the first half, jumping out to a 10-2 lead before taking a 41-28 advantage into the break behind 15 points from Edmead.

Williams provided a spark for the Huskies off the bench, going for 17 points including a triple to make it 12-12 seven minutes in. Northeastern shot 46% as a team, highlighted by Williams' 7-of-8 effort from the field.

Hofstra would regain its edge with another 10-2 run from there followed by a 12-2 run to lead by as many as 16 before Williams scored the final 10 NU points of the half to narrow the gap.

The Pride maintained its double-digit lead throughout the second half despite 14 points from Abreu and 11 from Kermoury over the final 20 minutes as the Huskies went 11-of-25 from the field.

The Huskies will continue their tour of Long Island on Saturday when Northeastern takes on Stony Brook at 4 p.m. on SNY and FloCollege.
