BOSTON -- The Northeastern women's basketball team (6-13, 2-7 CAA) hits the road this weekend for a pair of challenging conference matchups; The Huskies travel to Long Island to face Stony Brook (10-10, 7-2 CAA) on Friday night before heading to Towson (11-8, 4-3 CAA) on Sunday afternoon.
Friday's contest against the Seawolves tips off at 6:31 p.m. on FloCollege, while Sunday's matchup with the Tigers is set for a 1 p.m. start.
THREE THINGS TO KNOW
1. LAST TIME OUT Northeastern dropped a 65-56 decision to Drexel on Saturday at Cabot Center. Despite the loss, the Huskies showed flashes of offensive efficiency, but struggled to contain the Dragons' balanced attack.
Camryn Collins continues to lead the team in scoring at 11.6 points per game, while
Justice Tramble has emerged as a force inside, averaging 7.3 points and a team-high 5.5 rebounds per game.
Taylor Holohan has been a consistent presence in the paint, shooting 56.1% from the field on the season, tallying seven points in the contest, while
Alyssa Staten provided another consistent performance off the bench with eight points and three rebounds.
2. SCOUTING STONY BROOK The Seawolves are led by a trio of juniors in Janay Brantley, Diaka Berete, and Caitlin Frost, who combine for over 30 points per game. Head coach Joy McCorvey has guided Stony Brook to its best CAA start in program history at 7-2, including a dominant 55-43 victory over Towson on Jan. 18 in which the Seawolves held the Tigers to just 27.2% shooting from the field. Stony Brook enters the matchup at 10-10 overall but has been one of the conference's most consistent teams, currently sitting fourth in the CAA standings. The Seawolves are coming off a pair of wins at home against Hofstra and Monmouth, and hold a dominant 9-1 home record this season.
3. SCOUTING TOWSON Sunday's trip to Towson presents another difficult test, as the Tigers boast a senior-laden roster under fourth-year head coach Laura Harper. Senior guard India Johnston leads the attack, having scored 23 points against Delaware earlier this season, while the Tigers' physical frontcourt featuring Semaya Turner and Kayla Morris creates matchup challenges inside. Towson defeated Northeastern 79-43 last January and topped the Huskies in the CAA Tournament quarterfinals last season, though the Tigers have stumbled lately with losses in three of their last five games. Towson sits at 5-4 in CAA play and sits sixth in the conference standings.
