BOSTON— The No. 5 and top-seeded Northeastern women's hockey team is set to take on the No. 6 and second-seeded Connecticut Huskies in the Hockey East Championship on Saturday, March 7 at 3:30 p.m. at Toscano Family Ice Forum. The game will be available to watch live on ESPNews.
The Huskies will be hosting a pregame event with registration information available
here. At Toscano, parking will be available in the South Parking Garage at an hourly rate or fans can also park in I-Lot East for $15 cash.
THREE THINGS TO KNOW:
- TROPHY SZN: Northeastern is looking to capture its seventh Hockey East Title. The Huskies are appearing in their 10th-straight Hockey East Title game, the second-best streak in NC women's hockey history after Mercyhurst made 12-straight. The Huskies defeated No. 8 Boston University, 2-1, in double overtime with freshman Emy McDermid scoring the game-winner to advance to the semifinals. NU faced off against No. 6 Vermont in the semifinals, winning 3-1 to make the title game. The Huskies are 6-5 in all Hockey East Championship appearances and are seeking their first championship since 2023. Against UConn, Northeastern is 8-2 overall and 3-1 in the final.
- LIGHTNING STRYKES: Freshman Stryker Zablocki was named Hockey East's Player of the Year and Co-Rookie of the Year in addition to being named Scoring Champion, a First Team All-Star and an All-Rookie selection. She is the first Husky rookie to score 40 points in a single-season since Alina Mueller in 2018-19. Zablocki is the first Husky ever to earn Player of the Year and Rookie of the Year accolades in the same season. Zablocki has 42 points on the season, the fourth-best mark in the NCAA among freshmen.
- THE OTHER HUSKIES: For the fifth time, Northeastern and Connecticut will meet in the Hockey East Championship game. NU owns a 3-1 record against UConn in the title game, but the other Huskies defeated Northeastern 1-0 in overtime in the last meeting in 2024. Northeastern owns a 3-0-0 record against UConn this season, with all three wins coming at Toscano Family Ice Forum. In the past 10 meetings between the two Huskies, NU owns a 7-2-1 record and seven of those games have been decided by one goal. UConn owns the No. 2 seed in the Hockey East Tournament and defeated Maine, 6-1, and Holy Cross, 6-1, to advance to the Championship game. Tia Chan, the lone Patty Kazmaier Top-10 Finalist from Hockey East, started all three games against NU this season with a 2.71 GAA and .906 save percentage. On the season, Chan owns a 1.59 GAA and .948 save percentage. UConn had five selections to Hockey East All-Star teams, second-most in the league behind NU, including Tia Chan, Maya Serdachny, Claire Murdoch, Julia Pellerin and Kyla Josifovic. Josifovic leads UConn with 37 points on the season.
