Huskies Close Out Regular Season At Home With Jay Carisella And Joe Donahue Coaches Invitational

BOSTON — The Northeastern track and field team returns home for one final meet before the CAA Outdoor Championships, as they host the Jay Carisella and Joe Donahue Coaches Invitational on Saturday, May 2, at the Solomon Track & Field Facility. Action begins at 10 a.m.

THREE THINGS TO KNOW
  1. PENN DOWN A PR — Junior Ryan Sarney traveled to Philadelphia to partake in the historic Penn Relays last weekend. Sarney was one of 35 to compete in the 3000m steeplechase at Franklin Field. The junior crossed the finish line at 8:56.21, placing 23rd. This time replaces his personal best by 1.55 seconds.
  2. ON HOME TURF — Northeastern wraps up its regular season this Saturday at the Jay Carisella and Joe Donahue Coaches Invitational. It will be a busy day for the Huskies, with 63 athletes set to compete. Field events begin at 10 a.m. with the javelin and pole vault, followed by track events at 11 a.m. Last season, Northeastern recorded four individual victories along with numerous personal bests. Among the winners were Tim Rank, who claimed the men's 5000m title in 15:43.41, and Mia Belanger, who took first in the women's high jump with a clearance of 1.70m.
  3. MORE THAN A MEET — Saturday's meet will mark the 24th iteration of the Jay Carisella Invitational, honoring the late son of Northeastern Hall of Famer James Carisella. Jay was a devoted member of Northeastern's track & field team for 1.5 years. James Carisella, a pole vaulter for the Huskies, is regarded as one of the best in program history and ranks among the top five on the program's all-time indoor and outdoor performance lists. The meet is also dedicated to another legend of the program, Joe Donahue. Donahue was a four-year letter winner, school record holder, coach, champion, and Hall of Famer thrower at Northeastern.
The Huskies then prepare for the CAA Outdoor Championships in Elon, N.C., on May 15 and 16, with a week in between to prepare.
