BOSTON -- Northeastern field hockey (0-2) heads on the road Friday, traveling to face Holy Cross (1-1) at Hart Turf Field in Worcester. Game time is set for 6 p.m., with the match streaming on ESPN+.
THREE THINGS TO KNOW:
1. LAST TIME OUT: Northeastern battled back from an early deficit against No. 9 Syracuse on Sunday to take an early second half lead. After the Orange struck first in the opening period, senior Alex Mega tied the game 1-1 at the 33:36 mark, redirecting a Maggie Lundy feed for her first goal of the season. Less than three minutes later, junior Camille Armaganian converted a penalty stroke to give the Huskies a 2-1 lead, her second goal of the year. Syracuse answered right back, scoring twice in a five-minute span to retake the lead for good in a 3-2 win. Freshman goalkeeper Aiko Price made her first career start in goal, turning away five shots on goal across three quarters of work.
2. SCOUTING HOLY CROSS: The Crusaders enter Friday off a mixed opening weekend, downing Stonehill 2-1 in overtime before being shut out 4-0 by CAA foe Fairfield. Holy Cross is under first-year head coach Kim Cosenza after finishing 6-10 (2-4 Patriot League) a season ago, when the Crusaders' campaign ended with a loss at American in the regular-season finale. The Patriot League's coaches picked Holy Cross to finish fifth in this year's preseason poll, but the Crusaders return a proven playmaker in senior midfielder Maguire Sturgis, a 2025 First Team All-Patriot League selection who was tabbed to the Preseason All-Patriot League Team again this summer. Northeastern won last season's meeting between the two programs, and will look to keep that edge going in Worcester.
3. LOOKING AHEAD: Northeastern returns to Dedham Field for back-to-back home games next weekend, hosting UC Davis on Friday, Sept. 11 at 5 p.m. before welcoming Stanford on Sunday, Sept. 13 at 11 a.m. for Future Huskies Day and Alumni Game. Both matches will stream on FloCollege, giving fans two chances in three days to catch the Huskies on their home turf before Northeastern opens CAA play on the road at Hofstra on Sept. 18.
