The Northeastern University men's hockey program handed out its postseason awards at its annual team banquet on Wednesday night at Matthews Arena.
Wade MacLeod and
Tyler McNeely were heralded as Team Co-MVPs while freshman defenseman
Anthony Bitetto was tapped as the Ed Arrington Rookie of the Year.
Rob Rudnick and Bill Doherty of Huskies Radio acted as master of ceremonies while Northeastern hockey alumnus Jim Fahey (1998-02) was the guest speaker.
MacLeod and McNeely were presented with the Co-MVP award after each senior cracked the 100-point mark for their careers in 2010-11. MacLeod skates away from Matthews Arena as the most seasoned Husky of all-time. The Coquitlam, B.C. native played in a program-best 149 games and finished tied as the 20th-most prolific scorer in program history (61-76-137), tying Gerry Cowie (1978-82) and Paul McDougall (1978-82). McNeely posted career bests in points (34), goals (13), assists (21) in his fourth year as the two-time captain became the 46th member of the 100-point club in NU history.
Bitetto won the Rookie of the Year award after earning a spot on the Pro Ambitions Hockey East All-Rookie Team. The Island Park, N.Y. native was the second highest-scoring newcomer and led all defensemen with 20 points. Bitetto notched three goals and 17 helpers with all three goals coming via the power play. Bitetto tied for eighth in Hockey East in scoring with 0.53 points per game.
The Northeastern University Hockey Veterans' Unsung Hero Award was presented to
Drew Daniels for his two-way offering this season. The Suffern, N.Y. native, primarily a forward, filled a void in NU's lineup due to injuries and patrolled the blue line for the Huskies' remaining 22 games. D. Daniels finished the season with nine points, including three goals and six assists.
Veteran centerman
Steve Silva crafted a huge bounce back season in 2010-11 and earned himself the Manager's Award for the team's most improved player. The Tyngsboro, Mass. native upped his scoring total from eight points in 2009-10 to 31 this year, including career highs in points (31), goals (11) assists (20).
Four-year defenseman
Mike Hewkin merited the Donald H. McKenney Coach's Award after staffing Northeastern's blue line for 37-of-38 games. The St. Charles, Mo. native posted career bests in points (8) and assists (7). Hewkin also accrued the team's third-best plus/minus rating (+9).
Newcomer
Rob Dongara was bestowed with the Huskies Radio Award recipient for most exciting player to watch. Dongara's speed and shot made the rookie a must-see on the ice. The Scituate, Mass. native finished with six goals and eight helpers but his most memory was documented in front of the entire country. Dongara scored an incredible short-handed goal on the breakaway against Boston College in the Beanpot final and was featured as the #7 cut on ESPN SportsCenter's Top 10 Plays of the Day.
For the third-consecutive season, MacLeod won the 2010-11 Leading Scorer Award. The senior co-captain logged career-bests in goals (22), assists (23) and points (45) in his fourth season. MacLeod also earned the award the last two seasons after hitting the 30-point mark in 2009-10 and 35 point-plateau as a sophomore in 2008-09.
The Friends of NU Hockey Ferny Flaman award for dedication to Northeastern hockey was handed to both Tom Aucella and Michael Pilla. Both have been very involved in the operations of the Friends of NU Hockey organization.

Justin Daniels was bestowed with the Chicken “Lou-ser” award.
In the last four seasons, Northeastern's 71 victories are the most in program history. The Huskies made their second trip in three years to the Hockey East semifinal round at the TD Garden after starting the first half of the season 3-9-4. Northeastern finished the seasons going 14-16-8, overall, and 10-10-7 in Hockey East play. Northeastern salvaged the year in the second half going 11-7-4.
