BOSTON, MA - Northeastern women's crew had a chilly start to the 2001 season losing to both Radcliffe and Rutgers in the 18th rowing of the Rowlands Cup. Radcliffe rowed the 2000 meter course of the Charles River in 6:41.0, nearly two lengths ahead of Rutgers (6:46.6) and four ahead of NU (6:56.4). Radcliffe took immediate control of the race and had open water on both crews by the 500 meter mark. At 1000 meters, they had a two length lead on the Huskies but Rutgers stayed within striking distance until the final 100 meters. Radcliffe has now won the Rowlands Cup three consecutive years and leads NU in the all-time series 14-4. Rutgers was a guest this season.
