Northeastern's Ben Beck tripled home Coley O'Donnell from first base in the bottom of 10th to give the Huskies a 4-3 win over Boston College at Friedman Diamond. It was the Huskies' home opener. NU's Ken Henry worked the last three innings, allowing only two hits and no runs to earn the win, while BC's Mark Sullivan picked up the loss, giving up two hits and the game-winning run in 1.1 innings of relief.
Boston College reliever Chris Gannon was dominant, striking out seven of the 13 batters he faced in four innings of work. Northeastern was unable to convert on a bases-loaded one-out opportunity in the eighth inning, when BC's Scott Loderhos struck out Todd Korchin and forced Luke Carlin to ground to the pitcher. Boston College had two runners on the corners with only one out in the 10th, but Ken Henry was able to survive the jam by inducing Brian Macchi to fly to center and Brian Durkin to ground to third base.
Jason Gillespie started the game for Northeastern, working seven innings and allowing only three runs despite surrendering 10 hits. BC starter Jed Rogers allowed three runs on two hits, walking four in his two innings of work.
Northeastern will be in action again on Wednesday, facing Holy Cross at 3 p.m. at Friedman Diamond in Brookline.
