Hartford broke a 5-5 tie with five runs in the last of the sixth inning to defeat Northeastern 10-5 and earn a split of an America East doubleheader.
The host Hawks got on the board first, plating three runs in the bottom of the second on a Steve Moyer RBI walk and a Rick Langer two-RBI single. Northeastern evened the score at 3-3 in the top of the third on a run-scoring passed ball, a Miguel Paquette RBI groundout and a Hagstrom RBI double.
Hartford regained the lead in the bottom of the inning, pushing across two runs on Miguel Marichal's RBI double and a Ryan Cuscovitch RBI single. The Huskies scored single runs in the fourth and fifth innings, on RBI sacrifice flies by Brad Czarnowski and Hagstrom to tie the score at 5-5 heading into the bottom of the sixth.
The Hawks then rallied for five runs in the inning on RBI singles by Langer, Ron Acabbo and Cory Parker and a two-RBI double by Cuscovitch. Northeastern loaded the bases with two outs in the top of the seventh, but Hartford starting pitcher Scott Roy struck out Colin Gaynor to end the threat and pick up his fourth win of the season. Jim Madison took the loss in relief for Northeastern.
