Senior Matt Cavallaro continued his recent surge, hurling a complete-game, two-hit shutout, and Ben Beck provided a two-run home run as Northeastern completed a sweep with a 2-0 win over Hartford in game two of a doubleheader. It was NU's second straight two-hitter as Cavallar matched Ken Henry, who allowed only two hits in NU's 12-4 game-one win. It was the second homer of the day for Beck, who hit a grand slam in the first game.
The Huskies got all the runs they would need, and all the runs in the game, in the fourth inning on Beck's two-run homer. Cavallaro struck out three while giving up two hits for his second win of the season.
With Beck's two homers on the afternoon he moved past Carlos Pena (24 homers, 1997-98) on NU's all-time list. Beck now has 26 career homers. Cavallaro, coming off a nine-inning complete-game effort against Boston College last week to lead NU to tbe Beanpot title, has now pitched three straight complete games, allowing just five earned runs over his last 25 innings (1.80 ERA).
Brian Mascaro took the loss for the Hawks, allowing two runs, one earned, on four hits over five innings, while striking out five.
