Albany 5, Northeastern 3 (Game 2)

Albany rallied for four runs in the top of the seventh to come from behind and defeat Northeastern 5-3 to earn a split of a doubleheader at Friedman Diamond. It was the first America East action of the season for both teams.

Albany's rally started when Craig Farley reached first base on a wild pitch after striking out swinging against NU starter Brendan Ryan. He went to second on a single by Eddie Scott and came around to score after Ryan threw wildly to first on Mike Grasso's bunt single. After an intentional walk to cleanup hitter Jake Toms, Dan Schoonmaker bounced one to shortstop Omar Pena, who botched a flip to second baseman Erik Hagstrom and all runners were safe as Scott scored the tying run. Pat Delaney then singled to centerfield, scoring Grasso and Toms with the go-ahead runs. Nick Borgia (1-3) earned the win and retired NU in order in the last of the seventh.

The Huskies scored single runs in the first and second innings to take a 2-0 lead. In the first, Brad Czarnowski doubled and moved to third on a passed ball. Pena brought him home with a sacrifice fly. NU added to the advantage when freshman Miguel Paquette led off the second inning with his secod homer of the season, a blast to right field off Albany starter Steve Emmerthal.

The Great Danes got on the board in the fourth. Toms led off with a single and Delaney drew a one-out walk. Fred Estes then lifted a fly to left center that was mishandled by Czarnowski to load the bases. Toms came home to score on a ground-out by Matt Crudo. Ryan worked out of the jam by striking out Farley.

Nick Graves had an RBI single in the sixth to give NU what appeared to be a key insurance run and a 3-1 lead for Ryan. The Huskies had the bases loaded with one out in the inning, but Borgia worked out of trouble by striking out Hagstrom and getting Jeff Heriot to fly out.

The Huskies won game one 6-3. The two teams will meet in another doubleheader on Sunday, starting at 1 p.m.
