Albany got two runs in the eighth inning to break a 2-2 tie and held on for a 4-2 win over Northeastern in game one of a doubleheader at Friedman Diamond.
Ken Henry went the distance for the Huskies and was the tough-luck loser, dropping to 3-1 on the season. He allowed only seven hits and struck out six with just one walk. Eddie Scott hit a one-out single in the eighth and went to second on Mike Grasso's single. Scott came around to score the go-ahead run on an error by NU third baseman Nick Graves. Jake Toms then delivered an RBI single for an insurance run.
NU trailed 2-1 heading to the last of the fifth, but pulled even when Ben Beck doubled to drive in Omar Pena, who had a one-out single. The Huskies had a chance for more with runners at second and third and just one away. But Albany starter Adam Kroft worked out of the jam. Miguel Paquette was walked intentionally and then Erik Hagstrom grounded one to Albany third baseman Pat Delaney who threw home to force out Luke Carlin. Colin Gaynor then popped out to end the threat.
