Brad Czarnowski singled with the bases loaded and two outs in the bottom of the 10th inning to drive in Jonathan Kahn and give Northeastern a 4-3 win over Albany in an America East doubleheader at Friedman Diamond. The win gave the Huskies a split of the Sunday twinbill and a split in the weekend series.
NU led 2-1, but the Great Danes scored single runs in the fifth and the sixth off Husky starter Devin Monds. The Huskies pulled even in the last of the sixth. Miguel Paquette doubled and pinchrunner Diego Garcia moved to third on Colin Gaynor's sacrifice. Garcia came home to score on an error at the plate by catcher Fred Estes as Erik Hagstrom reached on a fielder's choice.
The game remained tied until the last of the 10th with relievers Matt Piryk of NU and Albany's Nick Borgia dueling. Kahn started the last of the 10th with a single and Nick Graves followed with a walk. Jeff Heriot was hit by a pitch to load the bases and then Czarnowski delivered his game-winning hit.
Piryk, just a freshman, improved to 3-0 on the season. NU lost game one 4-2 in eight innings.
