A two-out, two-run triple in the fifth inning off the bat of sophomore Jason Delaney lifted Boston College to an 8-7 win over Northeastern in the first game of a doubleheader on Thursday, April 10 at Friedman Diamond.
Down 7-4, Boston College rallied for four runs in the bottom of the fifth to take its first lead of the game. Drew Locke drove in his second run of the game with a single, cutting the Huskies' lead to 7-5. After a walk and a fly out, Mike Flynn knocked in Locke with a base hit to left. Delaney followed that with a two-run triple over Husky centerfielder Chris Emanuele's head to put the Eagles on top, 8-7.
Matt Elfeldt and Ryan Morgan shut out the Huskies in the sixth and seventh innings, respectively, to preserve the win. Elfeldt pitched a total of two scoreless innings to earn the victory, while Morgan notched his seventh save.
Matt Lederhos started the game, and he helped his own cause in the bottom of the first with a two-run homer to left-center field.
The Huskies came back in the top of the second with six runs, all of which were unearned. Brad Czarnowski highlighted the outburst with a two-run single, while Paul Koslowski and Emanuele each drove in a run, Koslowski on a base hit, Emanuele on a fielder's choice.
Locke stroked an RBI single to center in the third to cut Northeastern's lead to 6-3.
Koslowski picked up another RBI in the fourth on a sacrifice fly to center.
Delaney's double to right-center in the bottom of the fourth plated Morgan, making it a 7-4 game. Czarnowski led the Huskies by going 3-3 from the plate with two RBIs in the game, while Koslowski also plated two for NU.
