Albany won 5-2 to sweep a doubleheader from Northeastern on Sunday. The Huskies fell to 5-10 with the loss in their first America East games of the season, after having two doubleheaders against Vermont rained out last weekend.
NU led Albany (8-17, 2-4 America East) 1-0 in the bottom of the second before Derek DeGrazio, who went 2-3, laced a double into the gap in rightfield scoring two for the Great Danes. Matt Crudo brought DeGrazio home with a two-out single to left to give the Great Danes a 3-1 lead and all the runs they would need.
Northeastern cut the deficit to one in the top of the sixth, as Chris Emanuele's bloop single to leftfield scored Tim Bush, before Joe Lamb threw out Matt Morizio, who was trying to score from second on the play.
Dan Schoonmaker hit a two-run home run, his second of the year, in the bottom of the sixth inning to increase the Albany advantage to 5-2. Steve Emmerthal tossed a complete game for the Great Danes, giving up two runs on seven hits and striking out six, while Jordan Thomson (1-3) went the distance for NU, striking out two.
The Huskies will look to get back on track when they play another doubleheader against Albany on Monday starting at 11 a.m.
