Northeastern won its first America East game of the season, 11-3 over Albany on Monday behind seven strong innings from junior Justin Hedrick, who improved to 3-0 on the season. Hedrick had a no-hitter going for the first 4 2/3 innings of the game and went the distance, allowing three runs, only one earned, on four hits with eight strikeouts and just one walk.
Freshman Arman Sidhu led NU's highest scoring output of the season, going 3-5 with an RBI and two runs scored. Fellow freshmen Matt Morizio and Chris Emanuele each added two hits and scored twice.
NU came out and scored as many runs in the first inning, two, as it had scored in each of the previous two games a day earlier against the Great Danes. With the bases loaded in the top of the first, both Brad Czarnowski and Sidhu scored on an error by the first baseman to give NU a 2-0 lead.
With a 2-1 lead after three innings, the Huskies added two more in the top of the fourth, giving them all the runs they would need. Jeff Maher led off the inning with a home run and Jeff Heriot later scored in the inning on a double by Tim Bush (2-4, 2 RBIs) to make it 4-1.
The Huskies piled it on in the late innings, scoring three in both the sixth and seventh innings to make it a comfortable edge. Morizio led off the sixth with a homer and doubled in the seventh.
Hedrick remained unbeaten on the season after only allowing one earned run in the fifth inning to lower his ERA to 2.22.
