Northeastern was swept by NC State on Sunday, losing the third of a three-game series to the 20th-ranked Wolfpack 10-1 at Doak Field. NC State was victorious by a score of 7-6 on Friday and 5-4 on Saturday. NU managed only two hits off the Pack in the final game.
NC State took a 10-0 lead through eight innings before the Huskies got on the board. Northeastern scored in the top of the ninth when Arman Sidhu and Miguel Paquette walked and Mike Steinberg doubled to left to drive in Sidhu. The Huskies loaded the bases on a Wolfpack error, but were unable to convert for any more runs.
Junior Devin Monds started on the mound and took the loss for the Huskies. He allowed nine runs in three and one-third innings of work, one five hits and six walks. NC State scored three runs in the second inning and six in the fourth. With two outs in the fourth, Adam Ottavino relieved Monds and pitched two and one-third innings, allowing one run.
Freshman Dave Pellegrine was a bright spot in the loss, pitching two scoreless innings in his collegiate debut for the Huskies to finish the game. Pellegrine struck out two batters and let up one hit and one walk.
Phillip Davidson got the win for NC State and combined with Jason Duncan and Jeffrey Stallings to seal the two-hit victory. Jason St. Julien led the Pack offensively, hitting 2-4 with two RBI and one run.
In their next contest, the Huskies make their regional debut, travelling to Holy Cross for a double-header March 21 beginning at 1 p.m. in Worcester.
