Northeastern dominated Vermont, beating the Catamounts 12-2 on Saturday behind eight strong innings from Devin Monds at Centennial Field in Burlington, Vt. Monds held Vermont scoreless through eight innings, allowing only three hits while striking out six to earn the victory.
Northeastern improves to 14-10 overall and 4-2 in America East play with the win.
Jeff Heriot provided some fireworks for NU's offense, hitting two solo homers while going 3-5 in the victory. Tim Bush went 3-5 with a homer and three RBI and Chris Emanuele hit 3-6 with two RBI.
NU broke the game open with five runs in the second inning and didn't look back. Vermont scored two harmless runs in the bottom of the ninth off reliever Jim Madison.
Northeastern and Vermont split a doubleheader on Saturday. Vermont won the first game 11-10 while NU took the second game 3-1.
Northeastern is back in action on Tuesday against Massachusetts at the Beanpot Tournament. Held at Fenway Park since 1991, the tournament has been moved to the home of the Brockton Rox, Campanelli Stadium in Brockton, Mass. NU and UMass play at 5 p.m. and Boston College and Harvard duel at 8 p.m. The championship game will be on Wednesday at 8 p.m. while the consolation game will be played at 5 p.m.
