Beanpot Championship Boston College 6, Northeastern 2

The Husky offense was kept in check by Boston College, as the Eagles topped NU, 6-2, in the Beanpot championship at Campanelli Stadium in Brockton, Mass., Wednesday night. NU drops to 15-11 on the season while BC improves to 16-19.

Eagle starter Mike Wlodarczyk tossed complete-game gem. He was perfect through four innings and allowed two runs with five punchouts. He was named Beanpot Tournament MVP. Jim Madison made the start for the Huskies and took the loss.

The Huskies got on the board in the fifth inning to cut the NU deficit to 2-1, when Miguel Paquette hit a single to right field with Brad Czarnowski on first and Tim Bush on second. The BC right fielder bobbled the ball and Bush scored from second. Czarnowski tried to score on the play but was thrown out at the plate.

Boston College scored a run in each of the first two innings. Ryan Morgan scored in the first on an error by Tim Bush to plate the first Eagle-run. Jared McGuire scored in the second on a ground-out by Eric Wright.

In the sixth inning, BC's Garrett Greer singled in Josh DiScipio to make the score 3-1. The Eagles added a pair of insurance runs in the seventh on a sac-fly by DiScipio and an RBI-single by Garrett Greer. In the top of the ninth, the Eagles added an insurance run on a Jason Delaney homer, making the score 6-2.

Madison pitched six and two-thirds innings allowing five runs, three of which were earned. He was plagued by four NU errors. He threw 124 pitches in the outting. He was relieved in the seventh by Paul Koslowski, who threw one and a third scoreless innings. Tristan Besse made his first career appearance, giving up a homer on his first pitch in the ninth inning.

With Northeastern trailing 5-1 and one out in the bottom of the eighth, Mike Steinberg singled to center field. The hero of Tuesday's semifinal win, Arman Sidhu, doubled to left center, Steinberg advancing to third. Chris Emanuele knocked an infield, RBI single down the third base line to score Steinberg and keep the Husky rally going. Tim Bush represented the game-tying run at the plate, but he grounded into a double play to end the inning.
