Jordan Thomson pitched a complete-game shutout, allowing just two hits, to lead Northeastern to a 1-0 win over Stony Brook in the second game of a doubleheader on Saturday at Friedman Diamond. Stony Brook won the first game 5-4.
Thomson (5-2) struck out five Stony Brook batters and allowed just one runner to second base, where he was stranded in the first inning. Thomson set the Seawolves down in order in the third, fifth, sixth and seventh innings in the victory. He speared a hard grounder and threw to first to end the game. Stony Brook starter Jon Lewis (2-6) went the distance, allowing just one run but took the loss.
NU scored its lone run in the second inning. Jeff Maher hit an RBI-double that scored Mike Steinberg, providing all the offense Thomson would need. Catcher Dan Milano followed with a walk but Brad Czarnowski struck out to end the inning.
Thomson has been outstanding in three starts against America East teams this season. He is 3-0 with an 0.43 ERA and has pitched seven-inning complete-games in each start. Thomson is now 7-0 lifetime against Stony Brook.
Northeastern (16-12, 5-3) faces Stony Brook (15-19, 2-6) for the final game of the teams' three-game season series on Sunday at 1 p.m. at Friedman Diamond.
