The Huskies lost their third straight on Wednesday, falling to Rhode Island by a score of 4-3 at Bill Beck Field in Kingston, R.I. Brad Czarnowski led the Huskies from the lead-off spot, going 2-4 with a run and two stolen bases. Miguel Paquette and Tim Bush also went 2-4 at the plate with a run each.
The Huskies fall to 16-15 with the loss while Rhode Island improves to 23-15-1. Paul Koslowski started for the Huskies, allowing two runs (one earned) over five innings. He was relieved by Jim Madison in the sixth. Madison took the loss after allowing two runs (one earned) in two innings of work. Tim Bush pitched a scoreless eighth inning to finish the game.
Czarnowski scored the Huskies' first run in the top of the first inning. He singled to start the game and scored on and error by URI third baseman Mike Rainville.
Rhode Island scored a pair of runs in the bottom of the second, and the Huskies scored two more in the top of the sixth to take a 3-2 lead. Koslowski entered the game as a batter in the sixth and singled in a run. Tim Bush later scored on a balk.
Rhode Island scored two runs in the bottom of the sixth on an error and an RBI-single by Rainville to take a 4-3 lead that it would hold for the win.
The Huskies host Maryland-Baltimore County for a conference doubleheader on Saturday and a single game on Sunday at Friedman Diamdond. Saturday's twinbill begins at noon.
