The Huskies scored six runs over the first three innings and Jeff Heriot hit a grand slam in the fourth to power NU to its eighth win in a row, an 11-0 victory over Central Connecticut State on Tuesday at Friedman Diamond. Four Husky-pitchers combined to shut out the top-ranked team in New England. Northeastern improved to 24-15 while Central Connecticut State fell to 37-13-1.
Devin Monds started the game for the Huskies and pitched three scoreless innings. Monds is one of the Huskies' weekend starters, but pitched today because his scheduled start against Binghamton last Sunday was rained out. Jim Madison pitched the fourth and fifth innings and earned the win to improve to 6-2. Adam Ottavino pitched three innings and Tim Bush pitched the ninth inning.
CCSU pitcher Hasani Franke walked the bases loaded to start the fourth inning and Heriot followed with a grand slam for his ninth homer of the season. After walking the next batter, Miguel Paquette, Hasani was pulled in favor of Nathan Cole, who pitched the final five innings. Ryan Marshall started for CCSU and took the loss after allowing five runs over the first two innings.
The Huskies jumped out to a 5-0 lead after two innings. Bush batted in Mike Steinberg on a fielder's choice and Heriot singled in Bush in the first inning. In the second inning, Mike Steinberg hit an infield single that scored Dan Milano, Brad Czarnowski was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded, and Bush hit into a fielder's choice that scored Steinberg. NU added a run each in the third and seventh innings on RBI-doubles by Jeff Maher and Bush, respectively.
Northeastern has hit .343 and averaged over ten runs per game over the last eight games. Central Connecticut State was batting .335 as a team entering the game and left 13 men on base.
Northeastern looks to continue its run as it travels to Hartford for three games on Friday and Saturday.
