The Huskies completed the sweep of a doubleheader with Hartford, dominating the second game 16-1 on Friday at Muzzy Field in Bristol, Conn. NU won the first game, 2-0. The Huskies were led at the plate by Brad Czarnowski, who hit two homers and drove in five runs. He extended his hitting streak to 13 games. Justin Hedrick allowed one run over six innings to earn the win and improve to 5-3 on the season.
The Huskies scored three runs in the third inning, including two on a homer by Czarnowski. They then scored seven in the fourth and six runs in the fifth inning to put the game away.
In addition to Czarnowski's two-homer effort, Miguel Paquette hit a solo-homerun to lead off the fourth, and Paul Koslowski hit a pinch-hit, three-run homer in the fifth. Mike Steinberg, Jeff Heriot and Paquette each collected a pair of hits and a pair of RBI. Tim Bush went 2-3 with a pair of runs.
Hedrick allowed a homer to Hartford's Ron Acabbo with two outs in the first inning, then held the Hawks scoreless through the rest of his six innings. He struck out 10 batters. Matt Piryk finished the game with a scoreless seventh.
With the two wins, Northeastern improves to 26-15 this season and 12-4 in America East. Hartford falls to 10-30 and 4-13. The teams meet for the final game of the series on Saturday at noon.
