Northeastern had its 11-game winning streak snapped on Wednesday with a 6-2 loss to Connecticut at J.O. Christian Field in Storrs, Conn. Miguel Paquette homered to off the fifth inning and get the Huskies within a run but UConn pulled away with two runs in the seventh and a run in the eighth.
Paul Koslowski (1-2) made the start for Northeastern and took the loss after allowing three runs over 3-2/3 innings. Adam Ottavino pitched 2-1/3 scoreless innings and Jim Madison finished the game, allowing three runs (two earned) over two innings. UConn's Rich Sirois (3-3) pitched seven innings and gave up two runs to earn the win.
Northeastern drew first blood in the top of the third inning when Paquette tripled and Mike Steinberg followed with a sac-fly. UConn came back with two runs in the bottom of the inning to make it 2-1 in favor of Connecticut after three innings. UConn scored a run in the bottom of the fourth and Paquette's homer made it 3-2, but NU couldn't get any closer.
Northeastern is 27-16 (13-4 America East) heading into this weekend's series with Albany. Connecticut improved to 25-27-1 (8-15 Big East).
Northeastern and Albany play a doubleheader on Friday beginning at noon and a single game on Saturday at noon. The series will determine the America East regular series champ as NU is leading the conference with a 14-4 record and Albany is in second at 12-6 (34-11 overall).
