The Northeastern baseball team built up an 11-7 lead on Dallas Baptist, but gave up five runs in the final two innings to fall to the Patriots, 12-11, at Patriot Field in Dallas.
In the bottom of the eighth, Husky sophomore Dave Pellegrine allowed an RBI triple to cut the score to 11-8, prompting senior Tim Bush to relieve him. Bush (0-1), however, allowed another run in the inning and then three more in the eighth including a two-run double by Cody Montgomery to push across the winning run.
Pellegrine pitched seven and one-third innings, giving nine runs on 13 hits for the Huskies (4-8). Rodney Brantley started for the Patriots (14-10) and coughed up seven hits and six runs in 5-1/3 innings.
The Huskies scored their first two runs of the game when junior Chris Emanuele hit a two-run homer, his third bomb of the season, extending his hitting streak to 12 games.
NU took charge in the sixth with five runs, highlighted by junior Jeff Maher's grand slam. At the end of the inning, the score was tied, 7-7.
The Huskies grabbed the lead, 10-7, in the seventh on Bush's two-run double and junior Matt Morizio's RBI single.
However, the Huskies' bullpen once again could not hold the lead.
Northeastern will try to salvage its trip on Saturday when it plays Prairie View A&M at 1 p.m.
