The Northeastern baseball team scored 10 runs in the first three innings, led by senior Jeff Heriot's grand slam, to defeat Massachusetts, 14-0, Wednesday afternoon in Amherst, Mass.
Freshman Mike Lyon, who went 3-6 on the day, hit a three-run homer, his first collegiate home run, in the third inning while junior Chris Emanuele went deep in the eighth inning, a two-run blast.
The top of the Huskies (10-14) order, Emanuele, junior Arman Sidhu and Heriot, did most of the damage, going 5-12 with two homers, seven RBI and seven runs scored.
On the mound, freshman Kris Dabrowiecki (3-1) limited the Minutemen (4-19) to three singles in five innings. He struck out four batters and only walked two.
Seniors Jim Madison and Tim Bush combined for four innings of scoreless relief.
Massachusetts starter Brent Tarasuik (0-2) lasted only two and one-third innings, allowing six runs on three hits and four walks.
This is Northeastern's second consecutive shutout and third shutout of the season. The Huskies blanked Seton Hall, 5-0, on Feb. 28 and shut out Hartford last Sunday, 1-0.
NU resumes conference play on Saturday, April 16 with a doubleheader at Albany that starts at noon.
