The Northeastern baseball team's bats were silenced by Vermont starter Derek Miller, who went seven innings and gave up just one run on four hits while striking out 10 batters in the Catamounts' 11-1 victory over the Huskies Sunday afternoon at Friedman Diamond.
NU (6-12) scored its lone run in the very first inning when senior Miguel Paquette hit an RBI single to drive in senior Tim Bush, who had doubled earlier.
However, that was all the Huskies could get off of Miller (2-0), who baffled NU all day. The team had only four batters reach base all day.
The Catamounts (8-6) jumped on senior Husky hurler Devin Monds (1-2) in the first inning, scoring three runs. Miguel Magrass hit an RBI double to put UVM on the board and Kyle Massie smacked a two-run single.
Monds only tallied two and two-thirds innings, allowing five hits, five runs and five walks.
Sophomore Dave Pellegrine relieved Monds and didn't fare much better, giving up six runs, two earned, on eight hits in 4 1/3 innings.
Northeastern returns to action on Tuesday, April 5 when they play Connecticut in Storrs, Conn. at 3 p.m.
